Steve and I laid out newspaper several sheets thick this afternoon to make way for a 12-foot by 16-foot hoop house. Thanks to my brother Ted and an inherited propensity for salavaging things that might someday be useful, we were able to lay black plastic Gridmat flooring on top of our newspaper. We can either leave it in the hoophouse as a floor, put raised beds on top of it or remove sections and garden in the native dirt… er, soil.
The goal today was to kill the grass in a chemical-free way. I guess newspaper ink doesn’t count.
